Each month, thousands of people of all ages & backgrounds complete an ICB assessment

ICB is different because ICB assessments can be completed in any week of the year, so you can become a professional bookkeeper in your own time, around your job, family and other commitments.

Once you have completed your assessments, you will be eligible to apply for membership of ICB. As a member with professional letters after your name, you will stand out from the crowd and be able to access vital ICB support resources, including technical and legal advice. You will also be able to purchase qualification certificates to improve your CV.

What do the assessments cover?

The ICB syllabus falls in line with the National Occupational Standards and covers both manual and computerised bookkeeping and assesses competence in carrying out the actual work a bookkeeper does on a day to day basis.

The core bookkeeping qualifications are awarded at three levels:

Level II: Manual and computerised bookkeeping to trial balance for all types of business

Level III: Level II topics plus: bank reconciliation and the production of VAT returns for all types of business and preparation of final accounts for all non-incorporated businesses (sole traders, partnerships and not-for-profit organisations)

Level IV: Level II & III topics plus preparation of internal management accounts for limited liability businesses, preparation of a set of accounts from incomplete records, and calculation and interpretation of relevant ratios

In addition to the three core bookkeeping assessment levels, ICB has assessments in Payroll Management, Small Business Financial Control, and the Completion of Self Assessment Tax Returns.
